A Story Worth Telling
Our journey started back in 2008, when Dr. Hassan Gaafar had just earned his PhD. At that time the only way to build a good base of patients was through trust and good reputation; and so it was. Along those years the clinic has managed to grow from being a regular OBGYN clinic into a multi-specialty women health complex that serves women of all ages offering a diversity of services.
Dr. Hassan in a Glimpse
In the year 2000, Dr. Hassan graduated from Al-Qasr Al-Ainy Medical School with an excellent degree and ranking 26th among his colleagues in that year. He finished his masters degree in 2005 in Ultrasound Doppler in Pregnancy. He received a fellowship in speculums from Germany and attended courses in ultrasound and 3D at England. He was appointed as an assistant lecturer at Al-Qasr Al-Ainy between 2006 and 2009. He then worked as a specialist in the Fetal Medicine unit until he earned his PhD at the end of 2008 in 3D Ultrasound in Gynecology. Dr. Hassan then joined as a lecturer at Al-Qasr Al-Ainy and started attending international conferences worldwide. At that time he opened his own clinic and worked in outpatient clinics in some of the top hospitals in Cairo. He has a lot of publications locally, regionally in the Middle East, and in international congresses. He now works at several ultrasound centers, holds the position of Director of Fetal Medicine at Alfa Scan. He works and is a partner at Laha Center at Mohandeseen, Jana Hospital at Al-Haram and Al-Waha Hospital at Mohandeseen. He also holds the position of Assistant Professor at Al-Qasr Al-Ainy Hospital.
His Passion for Medicine
Before Dr. Hassan’s birth, his mom had three premature labours. She would be pregnant for seven months and then lose the fetus. At that time, premature babies were destined to die. At the age of 40 she got pregnant for the fourth time and both his parents decided to give it a final shot. It worked and she delivered safely. Dr. Hassan decided for that reason to specialize in Fetal Medicine. He wanted to extend hope of having healthy kids for those who had lost it with tools as simple as a Doppler ultrasound.
Career Inspirations and Success Factors
Dr. Hassan developed his passion for medicine as he grew up in a family of a doctor. His father, the renowned Dr. Mostafa Gaafar, was his very first inspiration. Being specialized in Anesthesiology he was always on call for emergencies. Thus, Dr. Hassan got used to the nature of sudden calls and urgent situations. Nevertheless, Dr. Hassan did not benefit from his father being a doctor in a way where he can inherit the reputation or patients. This doesnít happen with Anesthesiologists as they donít have clinics or a database of patients. He had to struggle his way through and make it to success with his own efforts.
The main person acting as a turning point in Dr. Hassan’s career were Dr. Mohammed Momtaz, Founder of Fetal Medicine Unit in Cairo University. Dr. Momtaz was the first to encourage Dr. Hassan in pursuing fetal sonography and saw that he had a skill for it. Being a real mentor he helped Dr. Hassan travel to England more than once and publish international papers.
Opportunities happen and with Dr. Hassan someone came with a rare opportunity for Dr. Hassan in his early career. A student activity decided for the first time to let junior faculty staff travel for training opportunities in Germany. He was able to stay for 40 days at Kern University Hospital training under the supervision of Professor Melman, Head of Gynecology at Kern University Hospital.
